Spatial Design at AUT

Zammia Weatherall, The Story of Graffiti, 2012

Zammia Weatherall’s recent week-long graffiti installation (11th-15th June) was a response to her  AUT Spatial Design Year 2 Sound Studio run by tutor Rachel Shearer. Zammia’s project was concerned with spatial relations across a history of graffiti and music, specifically hip-hop. The work invited all types of AUT University communities to participate in the activity of graffitiing — an act they might not normally engage in. The site of the University offered a tension between what is institutionally permissible and how an individual can co-opt it for making a difference. Images on Facebook.
